Sweden Work Visa

Are you a qualified professional from outside the EU seeking new career opportunities in one of Europe’s most innovative and balanced work-life societies? With GlobePath Immigration Advisors, you can explore the possibility of working in Sweden with expert support through every step of the visa and permit journey.

Why Choose Sweden?

  • Sweden offers a compelling proposition for international talent:

    • Excellent standards of living, strong social infrastructure, and a business environment oriented to innovation, technology, and sustainability.

    • A multilingual workforce and an international corporate presence make integration easier.

    • Clear legal frameworks for non-EU nationals to obtain work permits and eventually residency, if they meet conditions.

    • Recent regulatory updates mean employers and applicants alike must meet defined salary thresholds and conditions, making the process more transparent and predictable.

What is the Sweden Work Visa

For non-EU / non-EEA nationals, the work visa process in Sweden involves:

  • Securing a written job offer from a Swedish employer, with terms of employment consistent with Swedish collective agreements or industry standards.

  • Applying for a residence permit for salaried work, which acts as your work permit. This is often submitted at the same time as the employment agreement is filed.

  • Meeting minimum salary requirements. As of November 2023, applicants are expected to earn at least SEK 27,360 per month (roughly 80% of the median salary) or at a level consistent with the industry/role.

  • After approval, you may travel to Sweden and register locally, obtain a personal identity number (“personnummer”), and start your employment.

Our End-to-End Process at GlobePath

Here’s how GlobePath guides you through the Sweden journey:

  1. Eligibility & Profile Assessment
We evaluate your education, professional experience, job offer (if any), and the Swedish employer’s compliance with regulations.

  2. Employer Liaison & Offer Validation
We help verify that your potential employer is eligible to hire non-EU workers, that the job offer meets Swedish labour-market norms and the salary condition.

  3. Document Preparation & Support
We assist you in compiling all required documents (employment contract, CV/qualifications, bank statements, passport, health insurance, etc.) and ensuring they meet Swedish immigration standards.

  4. Submission & Monitoring
We submit your residence/work-permit application to the Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) and monitor its progress—keeping you updated each step of the way.

  5. Pre-Departure & Arrival Support
Once approved, we help you with arrival formalities in Sweden: registration, banking, housing, local integration advice, and understanding Swedish tax/benefits framework.

  6. Ongoing Support & Renewal
We guide you when it’s time to renew your permit, change employer or role, or consider long-term residence options.

Key Requirements to Bear in Mind

  • A valid job offer from a Swedish employer, clearly stating role, salary, employment period, and that the employer has followed applicable procedure.

  • The salary must meet Swedish standards (e.g., at least the new threshold of SEK 27,360/month) and match what Swedish citizens/hired workers in the same job would receive.
You must apply from outside Sweden (for non-EU nationals) unless you meet special conditions. The permit must normally be granted before you commence work in Sweden.

  • For stays over 90 days, you must apply for residence/work permit; short-term work may have other rules.

  • Always be alert to fraud: the Embassy of Sweden in India warns about fake job offers and recruitment scams — Sweden’s employer must not require you to pay a fee just to get the job or visa.

Anyone from outside the European Union (EU) or European Economic Area (EEA) must apply for a work visa before starting employment in Sweden. Citizens of EU/EEA countries can work freely but must register with the local authorities after arrival.

  • What are the basic eligibility requirements?

To qualify for a Sweden work visa, you must:

    • Have a valid job offer or employment contract from a registered Swedish employer.

    • Be offered a monthly salary of at least SEK 27,360 (as per 2024 regulations).

    • Have health insurance and a valid passport.

    • Meet educational or professional requirements for the position.

    • Apply before entering Sweden (if residing outside the EU/EEA).

  • How long does it take to process the Sweden work visa?

The average processing time is 6 to 12 weeks. However, it can vary depending on the Swedish Migration Agency’s workload and the completeness of your documentation. GlobePath Immigration ensures a properly filed application to minimize delays.

  • Can I apply for permanent residency in Sweden?

Yes. After 4 years of continuous work and residence on valid work permits, you may become eligible for permanent residency. You must meet income, conduct, and residence duration requirements to qualify.
